Tell Me: What are your hang-ups as a teacher?I'm asking because, as you may know, a new 6-week session of the Studio Foundations Course begins on MONDAY, and if your concerns are something I can help with, I don't want you to miss out! For what it's worth, I always find myself wishing I could design a course that was akin to, "10 Simple Steps to Becoming a Better Teacher By Friday". ...but that's not a promise anyone can deliver. The truth of the matter is: For longterm change, we have to reconcile our beliefs and applications of music teaching inside our own heads. To me, this means more THINKING before DOING. ...but THINKING is not nearly as satisfying, right? There's no immediate result. I pride myself in creating an ideal balance of instruction, self-reflection, and application in this course. But let me ask you this. Do you ever:
Or... Do you ever feel perpetually "meh" about teaching? Like there HAS to be more for you (and for your students)? These are just a few of the issues we address inside the Studio Foundations Course. The Studio Foundations Course begins with Three Questions I ask at the start of every pedagogy course I teach. From there, we explore 14 principles that serve as tenets for my entire studio approach. The Fourteen Principles keep me satisfied and effective as a teacher - and help keep studio families content as well. The Six-Week Session breaks the course down into easy-to-digest portions. New content is released to you each week, for six weeks. *You will have access to the course content for a full calendar year. Your Course Experience includes:
ALL for $129If you have questions about what this course can offer you, please HIT REPLY and ask away! ...Give me an idea of what you're looking to accomplish, and I promise my honest opinion on whether or not this course fits the bill.
Not interested? No problem! This is the last email you will receive on the course for this promotional period. I *would* still like to hear your Teacher Hang-Ups... because I have many more projects in development and want to cater to what YOU need the most! So, if you're up to sharing, HIT REPLY and tell me what aspect of teaching leaves you feeling the least-secure or most dissatisfied. 🥂Cheers to THINKING before ACTING, my friends!" 🥂 *This email may contain affiliate links. That's just smart business, but please know all recommendations are purely my own, and are absent of any icky ulterior sales motives. |

In Episode 166 this week, I asked the question: How do YOU want people to respond when you tell them about one of your favorite things? For me, I can't stop thinking about how people react when they find out I have a podcast. This is a body of work I am proud of, and I'm confident it's impacting the profession I love so much. Needless to say, I'm a bit enthusiastic about it (on the inside, anyway). Truth be told, most of the people in my everyday circles struggle to understand what a podcast...
Let's be honest. Waiting is hard. ...and not knowing HOW LONG you'll be waiting is the worst part. Right? We never know how long it's going to take our students to master the new concept, learn their next piece, or (for those of you who are into it) pick their weekly sticker. Titanic humor in honor of Episode 165, where I shared my fated high-school arrangement of My Heart Will Go On. Don't miss it. 😊 But seriously - Wouldn't situations be a million times easier if you KNEW how long you...
What if you're exactly where you should be? As musicians, our brains are wired for improvement. Our lives revolve around the notion of doing better, being better, and helping others do the same. (#teacherproblems) We are conditioned to scrutinize progress made through 30/45/60-minute lessons lessons, 7-day practice weeks, and annual performance events. ...and that's just in our WORK. Have you ever stopped to think HOW MUCH of our lives are devoted to the art of "getting better"? It's...
